Curriculum Overview:
High school students will discuss and learn key elements important for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Topics include how to:
- Choose healthful foods
- Become a careful food shopper
- Read nutrition facts labels
- Prepare fresh foods
- Exercise to say fit
- Be aware of – and avoid - drugs, alcohol and tobacco
- Maintain good personal hygiene
- Protect yourself (stay safe)
Additionally, students will learn valuable lifeskills helpful to taking care of themselves and navigating our “healthcare system” in a general way. Key components are:
- Understanding different kinds of health care providers (doctors)
- Understanding the value and purpose of preventative check-ups
- Understanding how to use medicines carefully
- Understanding how to get care when sick or hurt
- Understanding basic simple concepts of health insurance
