Health

Curriculum Overview:
High school students will discuss and learn key elements important for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.  Topics include how to:

  • Choose healthful foods
  • Become a careful food shopper
  • Read nutrition facts labels
  • Prepare fresh foods
  • Exercise to say fit
  • Be aware of – and avoid - drugs, alcohol and tobacco
  • Maintain good personal hygiene
  • Protect yourself (stay safe)

Additionally, students will learn valuable lifeskills helpful to taking care of themselves and navigating our “healthcare system” in a general way.  Key components are:

  • Understanding different kinds of health care providers (doctors)
  • Understanding the value and purpose of preventative check-ups
  • Understanding how to use medicines carefully
  • Understanding how to get care when sick or hurt
  • Understanding basic simple concepts of health insurance
