Physical Education

Core textbooks: Literacy by Design a Dynamic Physical Education, For Secondary School Students


Curriculum Overview:
P.E. activities will include soccer, ultimate frisbee, softball, badminton, basketball and floor hockey. Classes will start off by doing a quarter mile warm up lap, followed by upper and lower body stretching. Monday and Wednesday will consist of fitness days made up of aerobic and strength exercises. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday will consist of sport activities, including drills. The mile will be run every other Friday. The classes will end with a cool-down activity.  During rainy days the classes will be held inside and be health/wellness related. Students are graded on effort, participation, sportsmanship, classwork and personal fitness/mile improvements.

 

HS P.E. Goals:

  • Students will demonstrate an understanding of the basic rules associated with the sport played.
  • Students will acquire the techniques necessary to stay fit through stretching and exercising.
  • Overall student coordination will improve throughout the course of the year.
  • An understanding of the key elements to health and wellness will be attained.
  • Mile times and confidence will improve over the course of the year.
