Life Skills
The Life Skills program is designed to teach High School students a variety of life skills that build confidence and prepare students for independence and the responsibilities that they will encounter as adults. The Life Skills core classes are Independent Living, Math, English, Writing and Pragmatics.
In Independent Living, personal life skills, social interactions and critical thinking are emphasized.
In Math, foundational computation skills are applied to real-life math contexts in student hobbies, the home, the work of work and other content areas.
In English, information gathering and evaluating provides the context for studying different types of print materials in academic and extracurricular contexts.
In Writing, structure and organization are emphasized for narrative and expository writing development.
Integrated social cognitive curriculum uses a variety of materials to improve conversational skills and understand the expected and unexpected behaviors in a variety of environments.
These classes provide the foundation for self-advocacy and for information evaluation, so that students may develop functional skills for independent study and living.
