From Marilyn Lynch, Stanbridge Head of School:
Hello again and welcome to another edition of The Weekly Bridge. This weekend we will find out if our hometown 49ers make it back to the Super Bowl. Last Friday, students and staff donned their red and gold attire in support of the Niners and the team won their playoff game against Carolina. We will find out if this Friday's "Spirit Day" is equally successful in helping the team beat the rival Seahawks. Be sure to click over to the Media Room to view pictures from last week's 49ers Spirit Day, as well as highlights from Monday's middle el trip to Sonoma Mission.
Speaking of sports, our Bulldogs Basketball team is back in action this weekend. At publication time, the team had yet to face off against STAR Academy on Saturday morning, Jan. 18. The game is the first contest of 2014 for the Bulldogs, and only their second game of the season. Nonetheless, Coach Kelley and the players were excited on Friday (as is tradition, the players wore collared shirts and ties to school) and look forward to showing off their skills after weeks of practices. If you want to come out and show your support of the team, click over to the Bulldogs Athletics page for details on game time and location. If you can't make it to this weekend's game, there will be additional opportunities coming up. An afterschool game on Tuesday, Jan. 28 has been added to the schedule, and Mark is working to add more games in February and March. Good luck this weekend, team--Go Dawgs!
We have a short week of school next week because of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday. Stanbridge will be closed for the MLK holiday on Monday, Jan. 20; classes will resume on Tuesday. Next week also marks the end of the second quarter (and first semester) on Friday, Jan. 24--the midway point of the school year. Teachers will be submitting their second quarter and first semester grades at the end of next week and report cards will be mailed in early February.
Along with the end of the academic semester, next week is also the final week for first semester afterschool clubs. Second semester clubs will begin the following week (Jan. 27-31) and students were given enrollment forms on Friday to sign-up for next semester's clubs (you can view/download a copy of the form and club descriptions on our Files & Forms page). Second semester afterschool clubs begin Monday, January 27 and run through Friday, May 23. Please note that there are some changes to the club listings from first semester. If your student was in an afterschool club first semester and wishes to continue attending next semester, he/she still needs to complete the second semester sign-up form and tuition is due upon (re-)enrollment. Clubs run from 3:15 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and shuttle service is available for students who will be taking Caltrain. Please note that space is limited and clubs fill on a first-come, first-served basis. Students enrolling in second semester clubs return their enrollment forms and tuition payments to the main office next week.
A few final notes before signing-off:
• Congratulations to the Junior High division. All junior high students will be enjoying a lunchtime pizza party this coming Friday, Jan. 24 thanks to their division having the highest participation in this year's Annual Fund Campaign (93% of junior high families made their Annual Fund contribution before Jan. 1). Overall, more than 85% of all Stanbridge families have made a donation to the Annual Fund this school year and we are within striking distance of reaching our 100% participation goal. If you haven't given yet, remember that you can drop off your donation at the main office, or use your credit card or checking account to donate online via our Donate Now page. To all who have participated, thank you for making this year's Annual Fund Campaign such a success!
• We have made a few corrections and updates to our Stanbridge Family Directory and posted the latest edition on the Files & Forms page. Again, if we happened to miss anything, please email Chris Myers, who will re-publish the file with corrections as necessary.
• Last but not least, please note that we have an Open House coming up on Wednesday, February 12. The event runs from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. and will feature personalized tours of the campus, Q&A sessions with select staff members, and a chance to get in-depth information on all aspects of the Stanbridge program. Please spread the word amongst any friends and family members who may be considering Stanbridge for their children. Also, the Open House is a great opportunity for current Stanbridge junior high parents and guardians to learn more about our high school program, so I encourage you to attend as well.
That's all for this week. Good luck Bulldogs, Go Niners, and enjoy the long weekend!
