Hello again and welcome to an abbreviated "End of Spring Break" edition of The Weekly Bridge. Staff and students return to school on Monday morning, and there are a few big events lined-up for the week we get back. Some reminders and refreshers this weekend as we prepare to return for the home stretch of the school year:
The Toiletry Drive ends Wednesday, April 30
The April Toiletry Drive sponsored by the student STAR Teams will be ending on Wednesday, April 30.
Toiletry items are being collected for First Step for Families, a San Mateo shelter serving the needy and homeless. Items of need include new, wrapped/sealed soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, baby wipes, hairbrushes and combs, feminine products, shaving cream, shavers, etc. Donations may be dropped off in the big red tub in the foyer at school and STAR Team will deliver the items to the shelter in the first week of May.
Prom is Friday, May 2
This year's high school prom will be held on the evening of Friday, May 2 from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in Hayden Hall. All Stanbridge high school students are invited to attend the prom and students can go together as couples or individually. Guests from outside of Stanbridge are welcome but must be approved by Marilyn. Bids (a/k/a tickets) for the prom are on sale through April 30. Cost is $35 per student and bids can be purchased in the main office. Prom is a more formal dance than the other dances throughout the year, and the $35 bid includes a catered dinner that will be served to the students by staff chaperones. Please ensure you purchase your student's bid by the deadline so we have an accurate head count. Given the preparation necessary for prom, no bids/tickets will be sold at the door. If you would like to volunteer to help with this year's prom, click over to the SPA Spot page to sign-up.
EdRev is Saturday, May 3
Following the big night for our high school students, there's something for everyone the next day. Parents Education Network (PEN) is holding the sixth annual Education Revolution, EdRev 2014, Saturday, May 3 at AT&T Park. Conceived of and brought to life by PEN in 2009, EdRev provides a unique day of interaction among students, parents, and educators, exploring ways to create new educational environments that fit the individual, instead of making the individual fit the environment. Stanbridge will have a booth at this year's event, so be sure to stop by and say hello to our staff volunteers. EdRev is a great way to learn about the myriad resources available to families with LD students and organizers have once again lined-up an array of workshops and guest speakers. Visit the official EdRev website for registration information, schedules, and more details.
First Group of HS Underclassmen leave for Angel Island on Monday, May 5
High school 9th, 10th, and 11th graders will be going to Angel Island for their spring trip. To keep the group size manageable, half of the underclassmen will be departing on Monday, May 5 and returning Wednesday, May 7. Students who are not part of this first iteration have been scheduled for the same excursion from May 28 to May 30. More details on the high school spring trip coming after break.
Junior High leaves for Westminster Woods on Tuesday, May 6
Students in junior high will be departing for Westminster Woods on Tuesday May 6 and returning to campus on Thursday, May 8. The packing list for the trip, along with the required permission forms, were sent home this past week and can also be downloaded from our Files & Forms page. Please ensure all necessary forms are signed and returned to the main office by Thursday, May 1.
Tuesday, May 6 is also the "Silicon Valley Gives" fundraising event
On Tuesday, May 6th, thousands of area residents are going to show their support for their favorite nonprofit during "Silicon Valley Gives." Sponsored by the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, this 24-hour online fundraising effort will give the SVCC the opportunity to raise millions of dollars for thousands of local nonprofits, including Stanbridge Academy. This is going to be a big event, heavily promoted throughout Silicon Valley, and everyone will be talking about who they are supporting on May 6th. In addition to individual donations, hundreds of private and corporate sponsors will be awarding dollar-for-dollar matching gifts and bonus prize money throughout the day. Every donation and donor we get on May 6th will go further to help Stanbridge claim a share of the thousands of dollars in prize money. Given this unique opportunity, we are working to raise awareness of the Silicon Valley Gives event over the next few weeks and you can help by following these three easy steps:
- Mark Tuesday, May 6, 2014 on your calendar and add this link:
- Follow us on Facebook and Google+
- Spread the word to your family and friends along with a personal note as to why you believe in Stanbridge, and why they should give on May 6, 2014.
The final SPA meeting of the school year is Wednesday, May 7
The May SPA meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 7. The meeting will be held at 8:30 a.m. in Hayden Hall. All Stanbridge parents and guardians are encouraged to attend. Please note that this will be the final SPA meeting of the 2013-2014 school year. For more details on SPA activities--including upcoming events, speakers and lectures, notes from prior meetings and discussions, and more--click over to the SPA Spot page.
Don't forget to RSVP for the Senior Luncheon by May 13...
Invitations for the annual High School Senior Luncheon were mailed home earlier this month. This year, the luncheon will be held on Saturday, May 17 at Trapeze Restaurant in Burlingame. All high school teachers will be on-hand to celebrate the graduating Class of 2014, and we hope that all seniors and their parents will be there to join us. Please RSVP to Susan or Maggie in the main office by May 13.
...and remember that the initial Summer School enrollment deadline is May 16
The initial deadline for Summer School sign-ups is May 16th. Courses that do not meet the minimum enrollment by May 16th will be cancelled, so please return your Summer School forms ASAP. The course guide and enrollment forms for this year's Summer School program can be found on the Files & Forms page. Classes fill on a first-come, first-served basis, so don't delay in returning your forms and make your student's summer amazing!
As you can see, it is shaping-up to be a busy final few weeks of the school year. Hope you had a chance to refresh and recharge during the past week. Look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday!
