Hello again and welcome to another edition of The Bridge. It is a week of comings and goings here at Stanbridge, with the last round of Fall Experientials in full swing. As I write this, the junior high students and teachers have just returned from their week at Pigeon Point. Despite the rain they encountered, there seem to be plenty of smiles indicating that the wet weather didn't dampen their spirits. Maureen was able to catch a glimpse of some sun between the raindrops (see photo at left) and we'll be posting more photos online next week in our Media Gallery. Of course, next week we will finish our series of Fall experiential trips when the seniors depart this Sunday, Oct. 14 to spend the week in Yosemite. More information on their trip, including a comprehensive packing list and notes on equipment, can be found on our Forms page. Please note that the seniors' bus will be departing on Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m., so please ensure your student arrives to school by 9:30.
As we reach the midpoint of the month, one look at the calendar shows that there are no signs of things slowing down. Friday, Oct. 19 is a staff development day, which means there is no school for students. Junior high and high school students, however, can sign-up for a community service project to work at BOK Ranch on Friday morning and afternoon. Details about the project, as well as the necessary waivers and permission forms, are on our Forms page.
The week of October 22nd is our Annual Fund "Pledge Week." As you've probably noticed in our Fall newsletter and recent Annual Fund mailing, our 2012-2013 campaign is now underway and we are striving for 100% family participation. Our Annual Fund Committee will have more details about Pledge Week in next week's SPA Spot and Bridge columns, but please be aware that your donation truly does make a difference and has an immediate impact on your student, as well as the rest of the students, teachers and families at Stanbridge. We're all in this together and I hope we can count on your support.
At the end of Pledge Week, we will have our first high school dance of the school year--Friday, October 26th. Pam has notes on the dance in her SPA Spot this week, and the students will have good reason to celebrate: That Friday is also the end of the first quarter. Report cards and parent-teacher conferences are on the horizon as November begins, and I'll have more notes on those items as the dates get closer. In the meantime, here's hoping for a great trip for our seniors next week and a strong end to the quarter for all!
Finally, our "comings and goings" theme ends with a farewell. As you may have heard, Melissa Myers will be leaving Stanbridge to pursue an administrative career elsewhere in San Francisco. Melissa leaves after being at Stanbridge for seven years, starting as a junior high teacher and spending the past few years as a high school English teacher. Her other roles on campus have included assisting with our High School Transitions program, teaching Yoga, and being an awesome younger sister to her big brother ;) It is tough to say goodbye after so many years, but we thank Melissa for her many years of dedication and service and wish her well as she embarks on this new phase of her career.
Good luck and Godspeed!
And to sign-off, safe travels to our seniors next week. Have a great weekend!
