Hello and welcome to another edition of The Bridge. This week, I am filling-in for Marilyn, who is out of the office due to extenuating circumstances. It has been a busy week and there is a lot coming up, so I will do my best to try to cover everything. First of all, a request from Marilyn: It has been reported that some of our parents/guardians are still having trouble getting in and out of the parking lot during afternoon pick-up. Please keep the passing lane open when picking up your student so that cars do not get backed-up onto Poplar Avenue. If you need to come in to the school or wish to chat with other parents, please park on the side of the building or across the street. We've had some legitimate concerns with students going into the street when cars have been backed-up in the lot. Please keep the passing lane vacant so that vehicles can navigate through the lot expeditiously.
Speaking of comings and goings, this week marked the finale of our Fall Experiential trips. The seniors returned on Friday and you can look forward to seeing photos from their travels online next week. In the meantime, pictures from all of the other fall trips have finally been uploaded to the Media Room photo gallery, so be sure to login with your Portal password and check them out.
Today's community service project at B.O.K. Ranch gave me the excuse to post the photo of Mr. Ed above (as if one ever needs an excuse to post pictures of a talking horse--or a shameless link to his catchy theme song). Thank you to all of the students who participated in today's event, as well as the volunteer drivers and chaperones. Stanbridge has two more community service opportunities coming up on November 1 and 2 at Glide Memorial and the San Francisco Food Bank. You can read more about these opportunities on our Community Service page and download the permission forms on our Forms page. Thanks to Susan Kufer for coordinating these events.
Believe it or not, next week will mark the end of the first quarter. The quarter ends on Friday, Oct. 26 and high school students can celebrate the milestone at the Halloween Dance that night (John, Gordon and I will be the chaperones, so the dance will be extra awesome). Pam has more details on the dance in her SPA Spot and we'll post the permission form online next week.
Leading-up to Friday, a few dates to note: Tuesday, Oct. 23 is a makeup/retake day for yearbook pictures. If your student needs to be photographed, please ensure he/she wears the proper uniform to school that day (check the Handbook for guidelines). On Thursday, Oct. 25, we will have an afternoon assembly for the whole school. The topic is laser science and I am already searching online for Star Wars pictures to post with next Friday's blog.
Please note that next week is also our Annual Fund Pledge Week. During morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up, volunteers will be in the parking lot distributing pledge cards. The Annual Fund Committee is using next week to help kickstart this year's campaign by adding an extra incentive: Families who pledge or donate by month's end will have their student entered in a raffle to win a homeroom party. Full details are on the Weekly Bridge mainpage, and you'll be getting more information via email next week (oh...and you can pledge online, too).
Finally, on Monday the 22nd, I'll be adding an online form to our website which allows you to sign-up for and request dates and times for your parent-teacher conferences. Conferences are slated for Thursday and Friday, Nov. 1 & 2, and Susan will be doing all scheduling through online submissions. Please check back Monday afternoon for the link--Susan will email you instructions once the form is ready to go.
Speaking of ready to go, it's Friday afternoon, there are no students here and the boss is gone. Time to hop on my horse and ride into the sunset. Be sure to check the Weekly Bridge mainpage for additional news and notes, including what's new on our website and calendar updates. Have a great weekend!
