I grew at Stanbridge in that I got to know so many people here, and I became a little more outgoing. I was able to learn things at my own pace, and I could ask for help when I needed it. It also helped that Stanbridge was a place where I could go and be happy. When I was a junior I joined the Bulldog Basketball team. I had not been on a basketball team before, so I did not know what to do. The people on the basketball team helped me get better as a player and my skills improved a lot this past season. I was also involved in the STAR team during all 4 years of high school. I was the sergeant of arms for STAR team, which meant that I called the meetings to order. Because of STAR team I was able to help people, something I enjoy doing. One of my favorite events was the yearly food drive and helping James bring the donated cans of food to the local food bank. I also improved my leadership skills on Student Government. I was the vice president during my junior year and then the president this year. I think that in running the weekly student government meeting helped improved my leadership skills. Another great thing I did at Stanbridge the last three years was yearbook with Camille. The yearbook was very fun to work on, because of the people that helped put the yearbook together. Everyone brought their one little thing that made the work seem more fun, such as the entertaining running commentary from one particular peer. I’ve also enjoyed the many experiential trips. This year the seniors went on the traditional Yosemite trip and on one of the days we went on a solo hike, which gave me a chance to reflect on the beauty of Yosemite.
I’d like to thank the people who helped me the last few years. First, thank you mom and dad who always said I could do anything even when I thought I could not. Thank you to my friends for being there through the tough times for me. The students at Stanbridge are great to be around. Thank you to the teachers for showing me more than one way to solve a problem. The teachers really helped me to know the subject that was being taught. I will always cherish Stanbridge and the people that brought me here today.
Next year, I will be going to Foothill College’s Tools for Transitions and Work Program. After that, I will most likely be go on to either another college, or begin working. The years at Stanbridge were great, and I hope to visit when I can.
