Hello again and welcome to another edition of the Weekly Bridge. We have officially reached the halfway point of our journey through this school year, as the second quarter ended on Friday. As we start the second half of the academic calendar, here are the latest news and notes from campus:
As noted, Friday marked the end of the second quarter. Teachers have submitted their final grades for the quarter and first semester, and report cards will be mailed by month's end. Please note that there are no teacher conferences scheduled for the end of this quarter. If you would like to meet with one or more of your student's teachers to discuss academic progress, please email the teacher(s) directly to set-up a meeting. Teacher emails can be found in the Teachers section of our website.
Friday also marked the end of this year's Yearbook Cover design contest. I'd like to thank all of the students who submitted entries this year—our staff had a difficult time of narrowing 21 entries down to five finalists. On Friday, art teacher and yearbook advisor Camille Geraci presented the final five designs and all students and faculty voted for their choice to grace this year's yearbook cover. Our congratulations to this year's finalists, all from the high school division (pictured above from left to right): Arlene L.; Daniel K.; Stevie H.; Brazos D.; and Gales S. As you can see, their artwork was creative and colorful, and each put a unique spin on the theme of "Life is a Journey." Alas, only one could be chosen for the yearbook cover, and the voters chose Daniel K.'s "train" entry as the winner. It was a difficult decision to choose just one, but congratulations Daniel on your hard work and creativity! You'll get to see Daniel's cover in its final form when yearbooks are distributed this May; the other four finalist's designs will appear inside the yearbook as well. (Note: Stanbridge families can use their Parent Portal password to access the Weekly Bridge mainpage, where you can see detailed photos of all five yearbook cover entries).
Coming up this week, our high school students will be performing another day of community service on Tuesday, January 27th. Groups of students and faculty chaperones will spend the day volunteering at either Glide Memorial, InnVision Shelter, or the Second Harvest Food Bank. Students received permission slips from their advisors this past week. Please ensure you have signed and returned the necessary paperwork to the main office or your student's advisor by Monday afternoon. If you need an additional copy of the permission form, please email your student's advisor or contact the main office.
The Stanbridge Parent Association is gearing-up for a busy February, so be sure visit the SPA Spot page for the latest news. There will be a number of guest speakers at next Wednesday's SPA meeting (February 4th at 8:30 a.m.) and the next high school dance is scheduled for Friday, February 6th. Also, this is your final chance to reserve seats for the February 7th SPA Valentine's Dinner. This catered event exclusively for Stanbridge families is almost sold out, and the RSVP deadline is January 27. Reservations are $100 per person, and all proceeds benefit Stanbridge—it's a great way to enjoy a magnificent meal with some great company, so reserve your seat now!
Our Annual Fund Campaign Committee is striving to secure an additional $10,000 in matching funds if we can get to 100% family participation. Anonymous donors have pledged $5,000 if our our K-8 division reaches 100% participation; and $5,000 if our high school division hits the 100% participation mark. That match money is in addition to the dollar-for-dollar matches on all new donations and increases in donations from last year. It has never been easier for your gift to go farther, and making a donation is as simple as clicking over to our secure Donate Now page. We're three-quarters of the way toward that 100% goal; if you haven't yet made your contribution to the Annual Fund campaign, please consider giving today. Any amount will make a difference and every donation will have an impact!
Finally, a few closing notes:
- On Thursday, January 22, Stanbridge hosted the all-school assembly "Global Safari." Click over to our Facebook page for pictures from the event.
- We have also added a new gallery of pictures in our website's Media Room. The newest photos include highlights from the second quarter such as holiday concert pics, field trip shots, candid captures and more.
- Our lower elementary and middle elementary students will be taking a field trip this Friday, January 30 to visit the Pixar Animation Studios. We'll be sure to post pictures afterwards from what should be a colorful adventure.
