A few notes as we prepare for the weekend...
HIGH SCHOOL DANCE
The high school holiday dance is Friday night, 7:30 to 10:00 p.m. in Hayden Hall. The permission form is available on our Forms page and must be returned by Friday morning. This is a free dance for Stanbridge high school students and it will have a holiday theme. The dance will include a professional DJ with great music, free food and drinks and lots of seasonal decorations. Students are allowed to invite two friends from outside of Stanbridge (guest information must be included on the permission form). This dance is exclusively for high school students; students cannot invite junior high students to the dance. A group of teachers and parents will be on hand as chaperones.
GIVING TREE GIFTS DUE; VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED FOR SATURDAY
All gifts for this year's Family Giving Tree are due under the tree by end-of-school on Friday and will be brought to the Family Giving Tree warehouse on Saturday, December 10th by a small group of Junior High and High School volunteers. On that same day the students will volunteer their time for three hours from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in support of this wonderful organization’s efforts. More information on both the Family Giving Tree program and an online volunteer sign-up form can be found in this week's SPA Spot.
BULLDOGS BACK ON THE COURT
The Stanbridge Bulldogs basketball team has two games coming up this weekend. On Friday afternoon, the Bulldogs will play Charles Armstrong; tip time is 3:00 p.m. at Nothing But Hoops. On Saturday morning, Dec. 10th, the Bulldogs will take on STAR Academy with tip time at 9:00 a.m. at First String Athletics. More details, including maps and directions, on our Bulldogs Basketball page. Go Dawgs!
DON'T FORGET THAT HOLIDAY COOKIES FOR STAFF ARE DUE NEXT WEEK
We're still looking for help in baking cookies for the annual staff cookie boxes. There are two ways you can help: On Wednesday, Dec. 14th, drop off four-dozen homemade or bakery-bought cookies (no pre-packaged, please) by 3:00 p.m. to the front office. Make sure that they're not too fragile to be stacked in a box. Better yet... Join some fellow parent bakers for a festive evening of food, drinks, and cookie box assembly the night of December 14th, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Online RSVPs and details on the cookie party available in this week's SPA Spot.
SPEAKING OF COOKIES...
The weekly Friday bake sale is tomorrow. Items cost $1 each and proceeds go to the student activities fund. As always, we invite you to visit our Video Gallery for a clip of James Warren singing "The Bake Sale Song."

This December, our students and their families will be participating in The Family Giving Tree service project. Outside of the main office in Hayden Hall, the elementary students (with an assist from SPA) have decorated the annual Stanbridge Giving Tree. Every paper tag ornament on the tree represents the wish of a child, teenager or adult from our greater community that is in need of some holiday cheer. Each gift or donation will be delivered to an agency that works directly with those in need this holiday season. The Family Giving Tree organization makes this all happen with host groups like Stanbridge Academy.
There are three easy ways to support this project:
All gifts are due under the tree by December 9th and will be brought to the Family Giving Tree warehouse on Saturday, December 10th by a small group of Junior High and High School volunteers. On that same day the students will volunteer their time for three hours from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in support of this wonderful organization’s efforts.
*Update: Deadline extended. Gifts will be accepted up until 3:00 p.m. on Monday, December 12th.
Lastly just come by to relax and admire our school’s holiday decorations and tree. Posters made by our junior high students are currently advertising the Giving Tree project throughout the campus and Hayden Hall is decked for the holidays. It's that time of year again--let's celebrate the season!

A couple of events to note for tomorrow, Wednesday, November 9th:
The monthly SPA meeting will be held at 8:30 a.m. in Hayden Hall. In addition to the regular SPA meeting, this month's event will feature a panel of alumni parents who will discuss their students' transition to school and/or work after graduating from Stanbridge. More details in this week's SPA Spot.
Tomorrow morning, Jay's 10th and 11th graders are going to visit the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory in Menlo Park for a tour. Details and a downloadable permission slip can be found on our Forms page. Students will depart Stanbridge at 9:15 a.m. and return by 2:00 p.m. Students should bring a bag lunch.
Tomorrow night, Sir Ken Robinson will present The Creative Edge: Inspiring Innovative Thinkers as part of the Common Ground Speaker Series. This is a one night only presentation at 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart School's Prep Campus in Atherton. If you are planning on attending, get there early as parking is limited. For more information, including directions, background on the speaker and a video clip, visit our Common Ground page.
Finally, tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. local time, FEMA, the FCC, and NOAA will conduct the first nationwide test of the national Emergency Alert System (EAS). The EAS is a national public warning system that requires broadcasters to make their communications facilities available to the President during a national emergency. The test will affect all television and radio broadcasts. Unlike typical tests that have been conducted before, this message may run up to three and a half minutes. Additionally, residents across the country will experience the test at the same time. Although local and state components of the EAS are tested fairly regularly, there has never been an end-to-end nationwide test of the system. This is being posted as a notification in advance of the EAS test. The regular school day schedule at Stanbridge should not be affected by this event. AP story here. For further information regarding the Emergency Alert System, visit the FCC website.
