“The student-created videos help integrate students in the lesson in a more meaningful way,” said Broadcasting Teacher Allison St. John. “Social stories are tools that break down the complexities of social situations and teach students what to expect and why. Having students star in their own social stories will hopefully elicit increased understanding, stronger attention and participation.”
Currently, the high school students are using “The Four Steps of Communication” framework created by Michelle Garcia Winner. The concepts within this framework have been adapted to meet the needs of our students. In the videos—on slides seven and eight—in the presentation below, the students practice the first step: thinking about the other person and what they are interested in. Take a look!
