High School Curriculum: P.E., Yoga and Art
Physical Education

Core Curriculum: S.P.A.R.K Curriculum; Teaching Sport Concepts & Skills-A Tactical Game Approach
Curriculum Overview:
Physical Education sports will include soccer, baseball, basketball, floor hockey, badminton, paddleball, team handball and golf. Each unit will begin with drills, encompassing the specific skills needed to play each sport. These sports will take place Monday, Wednesday and every other Friday. Fitness Days will consist of aerobic and strength exercises and will take place on Tuesday, Thursday and every other Friday. Each class will start off by doing a quarter mile warm up lap, followed by upper and lower body stretching. The mile will be run every other Friday. Classes will end with a cool-down activity, to get students ready for their next class. During rainy days, classes will be held inside and be health/wellness related. Students are graded on effort, participation, sportsmanship, class work and personal fitness/mile improvement.

This course is designed to help students work on three main fitness areas: flexibility, strength, and balance. At the beginning of the course, students will be individually assessed to determine which area or areas will require extra attention. Students will learn and be able to identify basic and intermediate exercises in Yoga (in English and Sanscrit), Pilates, and Balance Ball. The class will cover fitness vocabulary, basic anatomy, stress relief through meditation and breath, and healthy eating as part of a well-rounded fitness regime.

Course Goals:
- Create original works of art in the following mediums: drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics and printmaking using specific multiple steps involved in each assignments process.
- Identify, discuss and use the elements of art and principles of design as they pertain to each individual art project as well as art reproductions viewed in class.
- Compare and contrast works of art from various periods, styles and cultures and explain how those works reflect the society in which they were made.
- Employ the conventions of art criticism in writing and speaking about works of art during class critiques.
- Increase knowledge and vocabulary regarding art equipment, art making techniques and processes.
- Make connections to how Art relates to other areas of study as well as available jobs in the field of art.
