                                                                                                                                                          Course Overview:
                                                                                                                                                          This course is designed to develop basic oral communication skills in Spanish. The primary goal is to introduce and familiarize students with Spanish as a second language through listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students will be taking a multi-sensory approach to learning Spanish for a wide variety of applications: business, pleasure, travel, further language study, etc. In the beginning, the students will establish phonemic awareness and pronunciation. In addition, reading comprehension and vocabulary development will be emphasized, as well as use of the language in a cultural/social context. Students will do at least one project each quarter which will demonstrate the skills learned using various media.

                                                                                                                                                          Course Overview:
                                                                                                                                                          This class is designed to further the development of basic oral communication skills in Spanish. The primary goal is to familiarize and engage students with Spanish as a second language through listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students will be taking a multi-sensory approach to learning Spanish for a wide variety of applications: business, pleasure, travel, further language study, etc. As this class is a second year class, interaction/participation will be central to lessons and activities. Pronunciation, reading comprehension, and vocabulary development will be emphasized, as well as use of the language in a cultural/ social context. Students will do at least one project each quarter which will demonstrate the skills learned using various media.

                                                                                                                                                          This intermediate course will continue to examine the past tense as well as more irregular verbs. Vocabulary will be based on the body, living spaces, community, and environmental awareness. Students will have at least one project each quarter, which will demonstrate the skills, learned using various media.

                                                                                                                                                          Course Overview:
                                                                                                                                                          This advanced course will continue to examine the past tense as well as the future tense and subjunctive tense of regular and irregular verbs. In an attempt to speak Spanish in natural settings (conversational), we will take field trips (i.e. market, mission) and go into the kitchen and cook with different foods from Spanish-speaking countries. In addition, the geography and any currents events of these regions will also be discussed.

                                                                                                                                                          Course Overview:
                                                                                                                                                          For students to learn and understand the elements and knowledge needed to develop well-rounded understanding of how to communicate and identify (receptively) American Sign Language (ASL). 

                                                                                                                                                          Course Goals:
                                                                                                                                                          • Demonstrate knowledge of basic vocabulary, grammatical structure, and syntax of the language.
                                                                                                                                                          • Participate and acknowledge in and outside of classroom activities, giving an opportunity to identify and practice grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension activities to test their understanding of the language.
                                                                                                                                                          • A complete understanding of the number system in ASL; this includes practicing and developing a full comprehension of finger spelling and numbers.
                                                                                                                                                          • Study of the rich cultural heritage of Deaf community, traditions, stereotypes, and theater.
                                                                                                                                                          • Demonstrate knowledge of the language in activities such as performances using songs, stories, and/or personal experiences.
                                                                                                                                                          • Preparatory phase to attune students to communication for the next level in understanding manual-visual mode of ASL. 

                                                                                                                                                          American Sign Language II
