This month Elementary students are focusing on a variety of tasks based on student needs. Our Lion group is working on Self-Control through a variety of movement activities that allow them to explore different energy levels while remaining in control. We’ve also been working on our Belly Breathing and the 4 B’s of Self-Settling: Brakes, Breathing Brain, and Body. The Tigers & Bears are working on conflict resolution. Students are playing games and enacting skits to play out different strategies for resolving the problems they face. Check out the Peace Path script that students can use to resolve problems. In Middle School, students are engaged in important discussions about stress and mental health. Students discussed what it means to be healthy and basic strategies for maintaining good health for their mind. They discussed what stressors they face and how to navigate them. This includes positive thinking, sleeping enough, limiting electronics, and exercising. We’re following up this with studying some basic functions of the brain and it’s natural response systems. Check out this Hand Model of the Brain. – Emma Mamis, Board Certified Dance/Movement Therapist, Clinical Counselor Comments are closed.
