The core focus of the Stanbridge High School program is an academic course of study culminating in a diploma. Our program is designed to be responsive to the academic needs of each student, inspiring intellectually-curious, academically-oriented learners. The majority of our high school students continue their academic careers after graduating from Stanbridge, and our College & Career Transitions program works with students and their families throughout grades 9 –12 to prepare them for the appropriate postsecondary environment.
Course offerings are consistent with state-mandated requirements for high school graduation, and classes are taught in small groups where differentiated instruction guarantees student engagement. These courses include:
Recognizing that each student has his or her own learning style, information is presented using a variety of formats by a dedicated staff of credentialed teachers. Classes are taught in small groups whereby differentiated instruction guarantees that all students are engaged. Our classrooms integrate technology and are outfitted with laptops for individual student use. As we prepare to launch our students into life beyond high school, the core of our program inspires intellectually curious and academically oriented learners in reaching their potential and includes critical executive functioning skills—the ability to plan, initiate, persist through difficulty, and ultimately accomplish projects large and small. Social Learning and the experiential education programs are also built into our high school curriculum. Students learn strategies required to foster social skill development, become better social observers, and deepen their understanding of their own and others’ thoughts and emotions. Stanbridge high school students participate in daytime and extended overnight experiential field trips that integrate classroom concepts in a safe, challenging, and fun environment that allows students to build self-confidence and independence. Every other year, Stanbridge juniors and seniors have the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. for an immersive trip to our nation's capital that incorporates lessons on history, civics, and government, while seeing the city's historic landmarks, meeting with government representatives, and interacting with students from schools across the country. Ensuring Success After Graduation Because planning for life after graduation can present unique challenges for students with learning differences, Stanbridge places an emphasis on postsecondary planning. This counseling occurs throughout high school on both a group and individual level beginning in ninth grade. Approximately 75% of all Stanbridge graduates continue their academic careers at a four-year or two-year college, university, or vocational school. Stanbridge graduates have also enrolled in residential education and transitions programs (such as Wayfinders @ Fresno State, and Foothill College's Tools for Transition and Work) or gone directly into the workforce. Our Transitions postsecondary counseling program ensures that students find their next best step. |
