Transitions

Planning for postsecondary success

Stanbridge Transitions Portal
Click the link at the left to view our comprehensive Post-Secondary Transitions website. You will find a full compliment of useful information about advancing young academic journeys beyond Stanbridge!

While the majority of Stanbridge graduates continue their academic careers, we understand that each student’s goals, dreams, and destinations are unique. Our postsecondary counseling program begins working with students and their families in ninth grade to ensure that each student finds the best next step that is right for them.

Approximately 75% of Stanbridge graduates enroll in four-year universities, community colleges, or vocational schools. Our graduates have also enrolled in residential education programs (such as Fresno State's Wayfinders, and Foothill College's Transition to Work) while others have joined the workforce. At Stanbridge, we want our graduates to be proud of their accomplishments, and confident that even greater success lies ahead. More details about our Transitions program and upcoming Transitions events are below, and be sure to read our alumni stories to see the variety of post-Stanbridge paths some of our graduates have taken.

The Transitions Program at Stanbridge

The mission of the Transitions Program at Stanbridge is to guide young adults with learning differences in developing the practical skills needed to embrace independence. Whether the goal is to go to college or to find a meaningful vocation, our Transitions Program provides individualized assistance and one-on-one support. In a friendly, safe, and relaxed environment, our participants are supported in choosing their own path toward independence.

All 11th- and 12th-grade students engage in a variety of experiences to help connect personal interests and passions with long term goals. Measurable goals and tailored activities give young adults the tools and resources for success in higher education or a fulfilling career. Our program includes:
  • Educational tours, field trips, and speakers
  • School visits and campus tours of local colleges
  • Annual on-campus, postsecondary College & Career Fair every fall
  • Q&A discussions with alumni
  • Job shadowing and mock interviews
  • On- and off-campus internships
  • Career and vocational counseling
  • Test prep and college readiness
  • Practical life skills (healthy cooking; urban navigation; money management)

By the end of their senior year, students in the Transition Program have learned valuable skills to be more independent and self-sufficient; they have improved their emotional intelligence and communication skills; and they are better prepared for higher education or a meaningful career. Upon graduation, participants will have:
  • Increased independent living skills
  • Improved communication skills
  • Chosen and participated in internships
  • Developed job specific abilities
  • Acquired job references and recommendations
  • Developed career opportunities and a network of alumni contacts
