Up-cycling Zen; Found-Object Fountains Make a Splash

Making found-object water fountains showed the engineering design students the difference between a well devised plan and real life. As the students started building based on their perfectly drawn and designed blueprints, leaks and material shortcomings wreaked havoc. But, I’m proud to say, that flexibility and perseverance triumphed and every student was able to make a beautiful and relaxing-sounding water fountain! Way to go, Bulldog Builders!

Marcel Duchamp is thought to have perfected the found-object concept when he made the most famous example, Fountain (1917), a standard urinal purchased from a hardware store and displayed on a pedestal, resting on its side.
