Finding the right school for a neurodivergent child takes time, research and a lot of questions. Every family who finds Stanbridge arrives with a different story. What they share is a child whose potential hasn't yet been fully seen.
Founded in 1982, Stanbridge Academy is a K-12 independent school in San Mateo serving students with mild to moderate learning differences and social communication challenges, including dyslexia, ADHD and autism spectrum profiles. Our community is intentionally small, around 85-95 students, so every child is genuinely known by the adults in their life here.
Our faculty and staff include licensed counselors, speech-language therapists and occupational therapists who work alongside classroom teachers every day. Academics are rigorous and individualized. Students also participate in arts, athletics, clubs and a postsecondary transitions program that helps high school students plan for college, employment and independent living. Stanbridge is accredited by both WASC and CAIS, and certified by the California Department of Education as a non-public school.
Parents often tell me that Stanbridge changed the course of their family's life. Students say it too. One graduate, now finishing his nursing degree, described his time here as the moment he discovered "that there was more to life than suffering, and that happiness can be found." I hear versions of that story regularly, and it is what keeps this work meaningful.
If your child is struggling in their current school, I hope you'll reach out. Schedule a tour, join us at an open house or simply start with a conversation. We'd like to learn about your child and help you figure out whether Stanbridge is the right fit.
Sincerely,
Julie Smith
Head of School

Attend an Open House
Open Houses are one of the best ways to get a real sense of what Stanbridge looks like in practice. You'll have the opportunity to tour campus, meet members of our faculty and staff, hear from current families and ask questions specific to your child's profile.
Email admissions@stanbridgeacademy.org to be added to the mailing list for notification of future open houses.
