NPS Placement

Stanbridge Academy is certified by the California Department of Education as a Non-Public School (NPS) for kindergarten through 12th grade. NPS certification means that school districts can refer and fund student placements at Stanbridge when a student's IEP team determines that the district cannot provide an appropriate educational environment within its own system.

How NPS Placement Works
NPS placement begins with your child's school district. If your child's IEP team determines that their needs cannot be met within the public school system, the district may refer your child to a certified NPS like Stanbridge. When a district makes a referral, tuition is covered by the district at no cost to your family.

Upon receiving a referral, Stanbridge will review your child's educational packet, which typically includes the current IEP, evaluations and assessments, behavior support plans and recent report cards. Families are then invited to learn more about our program and participate in the standard admissions process, including a campus tour and student shadow visit.

Please note that all NPS tours and shadow visits require a district referral. Stanbridge cannot participate in or advise on conversations between families and districts regarding the Offer of FAPE, though we can confirm whether a student fits the profile of the learners we serve.

Getting Started
If you believe your child may benefit from NPS placement, begin by speaking with your school district's special education coordinator about an alternative placement. They can initiate a referral to Stanbridge if appropriate.
